Liliantine, Sword of Eris - Part 3

Finishing up this wonderful bust by Arnua Lazaro Miniatures

Final Details

With core elements painted, I moved onto the final few details remaining – primarily the jewel choker. The box-art had this depicted in red, but as I had decided to paint the blouse under the armor purple I figured it would be best to continue with the color scheme. I also liked the way these colors worked with the purplish shadow tones in the flesh achieved with the Dark Brown Ochre glazing.

The blouse was based coated using Dark Violet, with touches of Purple + Magenta + Pink to build the highlights. The back of the blouse was assumed to be mostly in shadow, so I decided to apply a subtle texture using a thinned mixture of Purple + Pink using pointillism technique.

I painted the choker and jewel element in Green Grey as a base tone. Over this I painted the jewel using Dark Violet, then built up lighter color along the left edge using Purple + Magenta + Pink. Final glints were added with touches of thinned Art White. The frame of the jewel was painted to resemble the steel armor, and the choker itself to match the hairband.

Lastly, I painted the leather bands around the arm using Burnt Umber with highlights of Dark Brown Sienna + Cork Brown. The gold buckles were also painted using NMM technique, using Yellow Ochre + Vanilla Yellow with touches of Vanilla White used for the brightest glints of light.

Final Thoughts

I was pleased to add this finished piece to my fantasy display at the MFCA show in Philadelphia recently. While there, I connected with another artist – the very talented Ken Sullivan – who had executed the same piece as part of one of Arnau’s live sessions. Ken was lucky enough to spend time with the master painter over three days in Austin, Texas. I think you’ll agree his version is quite wonderful. I think it’s a testament to the piece – and the goal of the piece as a training tool – that both of us were able to create our own unique, but equally beautiful, renditions.

You can see more of Ken’s fine work on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100084272676233)

And the that’s it! Thanks everyone for taking the time to check this out. I can’t wait to meet the next challenge. Cheers!
